Marshmello

Marshmello’s management team had reached out to me asking me to create poster designs for an upcoming collaboration between Marshmello and the anime Jujutsu Kaisen. Subsequently, they approached me again after our first project to create poster designs for another merch collection they planned on dropping.

How does one showcase two separate brands in a styled collaboration between the two of them in 2 non-adjacent types of media? That was the biggest obstacle that I had to surmount. Keeping in mind I had to satiate both fervent fan-bases, the team and I settled on the idea of illustrating ‘Mello in the JJK universe. Effectively making him one of the characters in the universe. This had to be dialed back, but eventually we settled on just the helmet illustrated in the style.

A collaboration between the two that might be continued with the new season of Jujutsu Kaisen being a bigger hit than the first. All 500 limited edition signed posters sold. The management team even decided to make a t-shirt out of my design.

During the COVID quarantine, a colleague of mine and I decided to create our own brand. We chose the name "Smile Design Co.", as we wanted our designs to be cheeky and bring humor into the midst of a bleak time period. Based on our inherent heady aesthetics we created and mocked up these designs that we collaborated on.

We created an Instagram, asked people to preorder their shirts, and received a larger response than we could have ever hoped for. Moving forward with our many orders, we then printed, shipped, and marketed our t-shirts and stickers on our instagram, and eventually moved our sales platform to Etsy where it stands today.
